The pinger locator in a search for AirAsia QZ8501 Flight has detected pings believed to be from the plane’s black box.
Head of the search and rescue agency, Soelistyo, couldn’t confirm the existence of a black box, before a detailed examination has been conducted.
“ We have our fingers crossed it is the black box. Divers need to confirm. Unfortunately it seems it’s off from the tail. But the divers need to confirm the position, ” Santoso Sayogo , an investigator at the National Transportation Safety Committee told BBC.
Earlier this week the teams found the tail of the plane in Java Sea at approximately 30 meters depth.
The teams are investing a great effort to raise the tail of the plane.
The AirAsia Flight QZ8501 vanished from radar on its way from Surabaya to Singapore with 162 people on board.
Until now, the search resulted in finding 48 bodies including two still strapped to their seats.
According to Reuters’ reports, relatives of the victims have urged authorities to make finding the remains of their loved ones the priority.
