Van Oord’s new DP2 cable layer Nexus got its cable carousel, fabricated by IHC Engineering Business, and a SMST’s 170 mton knuckle boom crane on January 19, 2015 at the BOW Terminal in the Nederlands.

The huge cable carousel has a capacity of more than 5,000 tons and an offshore crane will enable it to lay heavy and long export cables.

According to BOW Terminal, both operations were successfully performed as a tandem lift to get them on board of the “Nexus”.

The carousel was lifted with BOW Terminal’s Gottwald MK1500 and Liebherr LR1600/2 and the knuckle boom crane with the Liebherr LR1600/2 and Liebherr LHM400.

Damen delivered the 126-metre cable layer in December last year, ahead of schedule.

The DP2 cable-laying vessel was successfully launched at Damen Shipyards in Galati, Romania on 30 June 2014 and will be deployed installing electrical cables for offshore wind farms.

According to earlier reports Van Oord plans to use Nexus for the Gemini offshore wind farm project.
