Land and Water Services were commissioned to undertake dredging works to a 2.5km section of the Grantham Canal from Bridge 54 at Redmile towards Bridge 51, at Jericho Lane.

The silt removed was analysed as non-hazardous and was removed using an amphibious excavator and transported up the canal using floating plant.

This dredging scheme involved a section of canal categorized a SSSI by Natural England. This meant in-depth negotiation with Natural England, CRT ecologists and landowners to ensure the works were completed to all parties satisfaction. This added to the fact the canal is non-navigable to boats made for a challenging but successful scheme.
