Teekay’s 165,500 cbm LNG carrier Magellan Spirit is back in business after the vessel ran aground on January 5 offshore Nigeria, fully loaded with a cargo from the Bonny LNG plant.

Magellan Spirit is back underway having backloaded the cargo via ship-to-ship operation from Excelerate Energy’s Excellence, Teekay LNG’s spokesman Jonathan Anthony said in an e-mailed statement to LNG World News.

The LNG carrier, chartered by Swiss company Vitol, is on its way to Gwangyang LNG terminal in South Korea, according to shipping data.

Teekay declined to comment on the vessels’ final destination.

The ship-to-ship operation started on Tuesday last week in order to lighten the Magellan Spirit after salvage attempts have failed.

The tanker was refloated on Thursday and has undergone inspection operations.

Excelerate Energy’s 138,000 cbm Excellence LNG carrier has the capacity to take 80% of Magellan Spirit’s cargo.
