The East Bank levee project for Plaquemines Parish is well underway. Contract A which deals with the six mile stretch of East Bank back levee from Braithwaite to Scarsdale is under construction.

This stretch is about 45% complete at the elevation of 12.5 feet, which is the design grade of this levee. This section is expected to be completed by June 1, 2015, weather permitting.

Contract B and C from Braithwaite to Belair are both currently under design, and they are both approximately 90% complete in those design phases.

Contract D of the East Bank levee project from Belair to White Ditch is currently under construction. The fabric for this levee is in the process of being delivered. The project has experienced some short term delays, but it is also expected to be completed by June 1, 2015, weather permitting.

“ The East Bank levee is a crucial part to levee improvements for the entire parish, and by having this levee constructed to the federal specifications we hope to achieve federal accreditation to provide better protection for the parish as a whole ,” said Plaquemines Parish President Amos Cormier, Jr. “ This levee is critical to protection for both sides of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish.”
