The extension to the port of Cherbourg, as part of the Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) deployment project, has been officially approved.
The aim of this project is to capture the undersea turbine market while also taking up some activity in the manufacturing and logistics aspects of the offshore wind turbine industry.
With the most of the land made available for Alstom’s blades and towers facility and the assembly hub, Ports of Normandy Authority (PNA) has decided to increase the area in the harbour by 39 hectares to facilitate the further renewable energy expansion.
The wind turbine manufacturer will use its facility to supply components for Alstom 6MW turbine that will be used in three wind energy project off French coast, Saint-Nazaire, Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp.
Out of 317 hectares of state maritime land transferred to a local authority, PNA allocated 100 hectares to MRE development projects.
