Litgas , a part of Lietuvos Energija energy company group, has signed an agreement with Latvijas Gaze regarding transit of natural gas through Latvia, thus extending its possibilities of trading natural gas in the Baltic region.

General manager of Litgas, Dominykas Tuckus said, “Our transit agreement is an important step towards common and liberalized natural gas market in Baltic countries, where real competition will prevail.”

Litgas is already supplying natural gas to Estonian company Reola Gaas from Alexela Group from the beginning of February, and will start supplying gas to one of the largest natural gas consumers in Estonia Eesti Energia from March. Litgas is currently in talks with other potential customers and is expecting to sign new contracts.

Litgas said it expects to be supplying up to 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Estonia in 2015.

The company earlier signed a deal with Statoil of Norway for the supply of 540 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
