BlueTec tidal platform, a floating platform that generates energy from tides, is scheduled to be deployed in April, off the isle of Texel, Netherlands.

The naming ceremony will be held on April 9, 2015, in Den Helder, the Netherlands. Shortly after the naming ceremony, the floating tidal platform will be installed off the Texel island, and it will feed the electricty to a Texel-based plant.

This will be the first floating tidal platform that will generate electricity for the Dutch grid.

The modules for the device are currently being produced at Niron Staal Amsterdam B.V., a specialized steel construction and machining company located in the port of Amsterdam.

The project represents a collaborative effort of Bluewater, Damen, Van Oord/Acta Marine, Tocardo, TKF, Vryhof, NIOZ, Nylacast and Tidal Test Centre.
