Halcyon Tidal Power has halted the submission of the formal application for the Scots Bay tidal project until the Provincial Legislation on renewable energy is passed.
Halcyon proposes to construct a 1100 MW ‘Halcyon Solution’ tidal range lagoon facility in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.
Halcyon has received a letter from the Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Natural Resources outlining the process for procuring a Letter of Authority or marine license for its proposed Scots Bay Tidal Project, but the company has refrained from submitting a formal application until Provincial Legislation on renewable energy is released and fully reviewed, the company states.
However, the Scots Bay Tidal Project is still in active development, according to Halcyon.
The construction of the site is planned to begin in 2017-18, and the completion date is set for 2020.
“The project is still very much under development. Obviously, the time scale has slipped a little bit. It’s a long-term process but will make sure we get it right for such a significant project,” Keith Towse , vice-president of development at Halcyon Tidal Power, was quoted as saying by the Chronicle Herald, Canada’s news publisher.
