Minesto has welcomed EU’s new energy strategy deeming it as an important and necessary step to speed up the process of reaching a sustainable future.
The European Commission has published a strategy to renew EU’s energy policy, underlying the ocean energy as one of the main renewable technologies that could help transform EU’s energy system and make it more sustainable.
Anders Jansson , Minesto’s CEO, said: “This is an important and necessary step to accelerate the process to reach a sustainable future. Therefore I certainly hope that the European Commission will continue its efforts to support ocean energy and pave the way for this fossil free and sustainable energy form and help to establish it as an industrial base within the EU.”
In the report published by European Commission it is stated that EU remains committed to progress renewable energy by enhancing research, demonstration and innovation in the field of renewables.
Jansson added: “Clearly Europe has a competitive edge in renewables. But in order to maintain it, it is crucial that the European Commission supports a low-carbon and climate-friendly economy that is built to last. Otherwise we are running the risk of losing great opportunities for a cleaner world, jobs and growth.”
Minesto, a Swedish based company, is developing a new concept for tidal power plants called Deep Green , and has recently filed a screening opinion application to the Isle of Anglesey’s Council for the development of a 1.5 MW offshore tidal array west off Anglesey island, Wales.
