The long awaited FSRU Höegh Gallant has finally arrived off Ain Sukhna, according to an EGAS official.

The arrival of the FSRU will help Egypt start imports of the liquefied natural gas turning the country from a net exporter to a net importer. The start of LNG imports will finally help sort out the power shortages the country faced in the recent period.

As the official told Reuters, the FSRU Höegh Gallant, that has been chartered to Egypt on a five-year contract, is carrying an initial cargo of 160,000 cubic meters of the chilled gas.

The country recently closed a deal with Gazprom for 35 cargoes to be delivered over a period of five years. Together with that, the country secured 90 cargoes in total in the past two years and is in talks with BP for the supply of additional 21 cargoes of LNG.
