A $1.8 million dredging project to restore navigable depths through the entrance of Jurien Bay Boat Harbor has been completed.
Department of Transport (DoT) Coastal Infrastructure General Manager Steve Jenkins said that the completion of the dredging project ends the first stage of a works and investigation plan to address navigation and seasonal water quality problems in the harbor.
“ The dredging of the harbor followed seagrass trawling at the facility last year which aimed to improve navigation and water quality ,” Mr Jenkins said. “ With these works now complete the focus will shift to the analysis of recently compiled wind, wave and current data that has been collected at the harbor over the past 12 months.
According to Mr Jenkins, approximately 88,000 cubic meters of material had been dredged from the harbor during the four month operation, which was about double the volume removed in 2006 when dredging last took place.
