Nexans, a French company specializing in cable manufacturing, is reportedly downsizing its staff by 90 in Halden, Norway.
In its plant in Halden, the company has 900 employees.
According to Offshore.no , the reason for downsizing is the uncertainty in the oil industry. In addition, the company has won fewer contracts than expected in the windmill market.
Offshore Energy Today contacted Nexans seeking confirmation of these reports. We are yet to receive the company’s response.
The Halden plant is Nexans’ center for submarine power cables as well as interplatform cables and umbilicals for the offshore industry.
In February, Nexans signed a contract with Norway’s Statoil for the delivery of standardised umbilical cables for Statoil’s Visund field and in April Nexans supplied power umbilicals for a compression station on Gullfaks’ field.
