OpenHydro nets USD 5 mln from Canada
OpenHydro Technology Canada will receive USD 5.173 mln (CAD 6.353 mln) for the Bay of Fundy Tidal Stream Project. The funding is provided though Sustainable Development Technology Canada’s (SDTC) SD Tech Fund. The aim is to demonstrate the cost and performance of a commercial tidal farm. The company aims to deploy two 2 MW tidal turbines by fall, 2015.
Subsea cable laid at Galway Bay test site
The 4 km subsea cable has been laid at Galway Bay, Ireland, as part of the development of Galway Bay Ocean Energy Test Site. The cable will supply power to the site and allow unlimited data transfer from the site for researchers testing innovative marine technology including renewable ocean energy devices. RV Celtic Explorer was used to lay the cable, together with the frame to which sensors and monitoring equipment will be attached.
ITM Power wins GBP 1.79 mln contract with EMEC
ITM Power has won the tender to deliver an integrated hydrogen system for use at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) tidal test site on Eday, Orkney, Scotland. The total contract value of the project is GBP 1.79 mln. The 0.5 MW electrolyser will be used to absorb excess power generated by the tidal turbines testing at EMEC. The hydrogen gas generated will be compressed and stored to fuel cells.
ARENA to provide USD 15 mln for R&D projects
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) announced up to USD 15.15 mln (AUD 20 mln) in funding for development and commercialization of renewable energy technologies. This round of funding is dedicated to industry-partnered research and development projects. ARENA aims to align investment in research and development with the needs of industry. Expressions of interest are open until June 19, 2015.
Carnegie Wave, Fundación Chile to bring wave energy to Chile
Carnegie Wave has signed a Collaboration Agreement with with Fundación Chile (FCH) to work together on developing commercial wave energy projects in Chile. The areas defined for collaboration with Fundación Chile include the assessment of wave resources at various sites, the regulatory environment, site identification, and development and project financing and construction.
