Regen SW launched a manifesto on renewable energy that puts local communities at the heart of renewable energy developments, and aims for UK’s south west to lead the world in developing wave and tidal technologies.
Regen SW has asked MPS and Parliamentary candidates in the south west to show their support for the development of world-leading renewable energy industry over the next parliament by signing the South West Renewable Energy 2015 General Election Manifesto .
Candidates have been asked to back the manifesto’s eight commitments that could potentially create more than GBP 10 bln of investements, and 34.000 jobs for the south west.
The commitments include putting local communities at the heart of all new renewable energy development so investment brings local benefits, backing renewable energy and energy efficiency as a key priority sector, leading the world in developing innovative wave and tidal technology, and rolling out energy efficiency and smart technology.
Merlin Hyman , Chief Executive of Regen South West, said: “The South West Renewable Energy Manifesto sets out a commitment to make the most of the tremendous potential to attract £10 billion of investment and create thousands of new jobs in renewable energy in the south west. What we are aiming to do over the next few weeks is to build support from across the political spectrum to help us deliver this opportunity over the course of the next Parliament.”
The manifesto has been launched with signatories from three of the main parties including Ben Bradshaw, the Labour Party candidate for Exeter, Stephen Gilbert, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for St Austell & Newquay, and Neil Parish, the Conservative Party candidate for Tiverton and Honiton.
Regen SW is a non-profit company working to enable business, local authorities and other organisations to deliver renewable energy and energy efficiency and build a prosperous low-carbon economy in the south west of England.
