The Gate LNG import terminal in Rotterdam received 372,000 tonnes of LNG in the January-March period, a 186.8 percent rise compared with the same period last year.
Overall, LNG throughput (incoming and outgoing) at the terminal was 517,000 tonnes in the mentioned period, a rise of 138 percent compared to 2014, according to data released by the Port of Rotterdam.
Allard Castelein, Port of Rotterdam Authority CEO, said that the port had a very strong first quarter with goods throughput rising 7.2 percent as compared to the same period of last year
“ The positive trend in the handling of mineral oil products and LNG is striking. After declining last year, oil products are now experiencing a strong recovery. LNG throughput is even growing in triple figures and is really getting into its stride, ” Castelein said.
