Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik has begun construction of a self-propelled cutter suction dredger (Yard No. 512) for IHC Global Production B.V., part of the IHC Merwede.

This comes only weeks after Uljanik won contract to build world’s largest self-propelled cutter suction dredger for Jan De Nul (JDN8069).

The shipyard held steel-cutting ceremony for the newbuild at its yard in Pula, Croatia, on April 8th 2015, marking the beginning of construction of what will be the partially equipped hull of a self-propelled cutter suction dredger.

Contract for the new vessel was signed at the end of February 2014 and its delivery is expected to take place in April 2016.

The newbuild will be 152 meters long, with a height of 28 meters and draught of 6 meters. The vessel will have a load bearing capacity of 1,650 tonnes and the top sailing speed of 11.5 knots.

Three main engines MAN 6L48/60, each having a power of 7,200 kW, will be installed in the vessel.
