Statoil has released a video of its Heidrun B floating and storage unit (FSU) that left South Korea in March 2015, heading for Norway.
Statoil ordered the vessel from Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea in 2012. The vessel was built at the world’s second-largest shipyard in Geoje Island, Republic of Korea.
The new FSU will be permanently connected to a buoy, and the oil will be lifted from the FSU by use of shuttle tankers. The FSU will be permanently manned and has an expected design life of 30 years.
The storage vessel is designed to be permanently stationed on the Heidrun field in the Norwegian Sea, which is considered to have some of the world’s worst weather conditions, for 30 years.
According to Statoil, the 250-metre long and 46-metre wide storage vessel has a capacity of 850,000 barrels of oil.
Statoil contracted OSM Offshore to operate the Heidrun FSU for a period of six years with options for further extension until 13 years.
