Dominion Cove Point LNG filed a status report with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regarding the progress on the construction of the proposed systems for the Cove Point LNG project located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
According to the filing, engineering is at 77.7% and procurement is 78% done. Construction of the facilities is less than 2% complete.
During the March review period, civil construction continued at the offsite area A for grubbing, erosion and sediment control maintenance, mass excavation, fine grading, and storm water management installation. Selected roads were paved and light poles installed while the preparations for installation of office complex continued. In addition, warehouse buildings, duct banks and electrical, and tree removal were completed. The offsite area B has already been completed.
At the terminal, work continued on modifications to the existing plant in the areas of demolition and relocation of existing utilities, demolition of warehouse structures, replacement of south tunnel expansion joints, stack modifications to existing fuel gas heaters & GE frame 3 turbine generators, and the submerged combustion vaporizer stack/fan relocation.
Work also started and continued for installation of reinforced concrete pipe, duct banks, medium voltage cable, underground fire water piping, demolition of select existing roads, cut/fill operations, and ongoing E&S control measures.
When completed in late 2017, Cove Point will produce about 5.25 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas annually.
