Asia-America Gateway submarine cable system has experienced a new cut on April 23, affecting internet bandwidth from Vietnam to international destinations, FPT Telecom informed.

According to the report, the local traffic in the country is not affected.

The breakdown occurred in the SH1 segment of the cable linking Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong.

The AAG cable connects Malaysia to the US via Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the US west coast.

Earlier in the year the cable experienced another cut which took two weeks to resolve.

When it was launched in 2009, the Asia-America Gateway represented a breakthrough in delivering the first terabit submarine cable network between south-east Asia and the US, being designed for an ultimate capacity of 1.92 terabit-per-second (Tbit/s).

The cable spans almost half the length of the Equator.
