Shoalhaven City Council has developed a strategy to deal with increased demand from the community for improving navigation and boating safety at a number of estuarine locations within the Local Government area on the NSW South Coast.
This strategy was documented in the Shoalhaven City Wide Dredging Feasibility Study in which the following projects are proposed to be undertaken in 2015:
The majority of the material to be dredged would be clean sand that would be beneficially reused to nourish beaches and foreshores subject to erosion.
Surplus sand not required for nourishment may also be sold. The dredge volumes for each of the three sites range from 4,000m³ to 12,000m³.
Shoalhaven City Council has also adopted a Canal Estate Management Plan in which dredging and nourishment maintenance is proposed for the Sussex Inlet Canals (Rivera Keys Estate).
It is envisaged that clean sand required for nourishment could be sourced from within the canal system or the proposed dredging of the nearby navigation channel.
An Expression of Interest document is currently available that will close on the 13th of May, 2015. It is intended that submissions would be shortlisted to tender by invitation.
