ABB has secured an electrical services contract for the 194MW Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farm in the east of England.

The Swiss company will undertake maintenance of 54, 3.6 MW offshore wind turbine generators, as well as the electrical equipment over the period of two years.

The contract includes the electrical maintenance and support services for onshore and offshore electrical equipment, which will be delivered by ABB. Mechanical, control and other support activities are being supplied by Lynn & Inner Dowsing wind farms (LID) and other partners.

Among the electrical equipment included within the preventive maintenance contract are generators, convertors and onshore substation and offshore transformers, switchgear and cabling, along with onshore substation emergency response. Third party equipment covered includes GE Converteam converters and Ormazabal manufactured offshore medium voltage transformers and switchgear.

“The idea of working directly with a wind farm operator was attractive to us as normally our work is through OEMs,” explains Peter Wright, ABB’s service manager.

“The contract shows how ABB can combine skills and knowledge from across its organisation to provide a tailor made servicing solution for clients. Our strong relationships between different businesses means that we can offer the total solution that LID needs,” added Wright.
