Petrofac and Amec Foster Wheeler are reportedly planning to cut jobs amid the oil price tumble.
BBC reports that Petrofac is in consultations with workers both onshore and offshore.
According to Reuters , Amec said it was in consultation with 149 employees based in Aberdeen and that 64 positions might be affected. The company employs 40,000 people.
This news comes after another oil services company, Wood Group PSN, announced a round of job cuts where 80 positions might be affected. MacGregor, a deck equipment provider, also announced yesterday that it will be letting go more than 200 workers.
Offshore Energy Today contacted both Petrofac and Amec Foster Wheeler for confirmation of this information. We are yet to receive a reply.

In an e-mail sent to Offshore Energy Today, Amec Foster Wheeler confirmed a consultation process started with its Aberdeen-based employees about the impact on jobs of the downturn of the oil and gas market.
The company’s spokesperson said: “The consultation process includes looking at mitigating the impact through a variety of measures, including other cost savings, and moving people to the company’s other diversified operations. Currently we are in consultation with 149 individuals about 64 potentially affected roles.”

In a phone conversation with Offshore Energy Today, Petrofac spokeswoman confirmed that consultations with the workers are ongoing both on and offshore.
“In each case we will make every effort to manage the impact on our staff, including looking to deploy personnel elsewhere where possible,” the spokeswoman said.
It is thought that a proposed headcount reduction is around 100 across a number of Petrofac’s offshore contracts and a limited further headcount reduction is anticipated onshore. The numbers are subject to consultation.
