Damen has delivered a Multi Cat 2613 vessel used for tidal energy projects to Scotland-based chartering company Scotmarine.
The 50-tonne bollard pull vessel has a large crane and will replace the stock vessel Multi Cat Orcadia Scotmarine purchased three years ago.
The hull of the new vessel was in stock and customised for the client earlier this year. The vessel will be used for offshore tidal activities in Scotland’s Northern Isles, according to Damen.
Scotmarine will deploy the new vessel in developing underwater tidal energy farms for Scotrenewables Tidal Power.
Scotrenewables floating tidal technology uses Multi Cat workboat vessels for installation, maintenance and decommissioning in order to reduce tidal developers’ installation costs.
The vessel is capable of pulling and positioning of underwater tidal turbines in strong currents, Damen’s press release reads.

Scotrenewables Tidal Power is an Orkney-based tidal energy developer that was founded in 2002 to develop cost effective tidal and river hydrokinetic turbines.
The company is currently constructing 2 MW SR2000 floating tidal turbine that is expected to be launched in 2015, and will undergo demonstration programme at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) ahead of sale of units to tidal array developers.
Damen Shipyards Group operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards, employing 9.000 people, and offers a wide range of products, including tugs, workboats, naval and patrol vessels, high speed craft, cargo vessels, dredgers, vessels for the offshore industry, ferries, pontoons and superyachts.
