Dredging operation at Buckeye Lake have been brought to a halt due to the lack of space where the dredged material from the lake could be placed.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, a dredge has been making its way from Lieb’s Island to Seller’s Point since April 6, but the operations have recently been stalled because there is a lack of relocation areas for dredged material available.

“ We’ve got a dredge relocation area we are currently preparing (adjacent to Lieb’s Island) ,” John Wisse, communications director for the ODNR , said. “ We hope to have it on line by the end of the week.”

He also added that although operations have stalled briefly, the agency is confident it will still make good time this summer. “ We had been dredging at a fairly rapid pace, ” Wisse said. “ We’re hoping to get back on track quickly.”

During the Buckeye Lake project, ODNR will be operating two dredges; their focus is to improve boating navigation. ODNR also will be addressing some of the concerns expressed about improving boating access for some of the lake businesses as well as other lake residents.
