FSUE Rosmorport, major owner of the country’s port assets, yesterday released a tender for maintenance dredging works on the Azov-Don Sea Canal.

According to the company’s press center, Azov Basin Branch announced an open tender to select a contractor for 2015 maintenance dredging of the waterway.

If everything goes according to schedule, the works will be performed from July to December 2015.

In order to ensure safe navigation, Azov Basin Branch carries out regular dredging and hydrographic works on the Canal. The annual volume of dredging works carried out by the branch on the canal reaches up to 400 thousand m³, with the costs of approx. 45 million rubles.

Construction of the Azov-Don Sea Canal was carried out in the period from 1926 to 1928. The work was conducted by the Rostov Port Department with the involvement of a large number of dredgers and steam barges.

As a result of the large-scale dredging works the canal depth reached the mark of -4.11 m and the total length 34.2 km. During construction more than 4.7 million m³ of soil was excavated.
