GTT to work with HHI on Mark V containment tech

GTT, the designer of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG said it has signed a cooperation agreement with the South Korean shipbuilder, Hyundai Heavy Industries, for the industrialization of its new Mark V technology.

GTT, the maker of LNG containment systems, informed it has signed a cooperation agreement with the South Korean shipbuilder, Hyundai Heavy Industries, for the industrialization of its new Mark V technology.

This agreement includes the development and qualification of a welding robot for the primary stainless steel and secondary invar membranes. The robot will permit the optimization of the welding process and a reduction in construction time, the company said in a statement.

After some years of research and development, the Mark V technology is an optimized version of the Mark III system and its sister Mark III Flex. As with the Mark III and Mark III Flex, the Mark V technology is composed of a double insulation with reinforced polyurethane foam. The Mark V technology has received AIPs from major classification societies.

GTT recently signed a similar partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries.
