Speaking at a conference in Melbourne, Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said the company is targeting final investment decision on Browse FLNG project by the end of 2016.
Woodside’s partners in the Browse FLNG project are Shell, BP, PetroChina, Mitsui and Mitsubishi Japan Australia LNG joint venture.
Coleman said the joint venture is advanced in understanding the engineering of such a project since it is expected to have three FLNG facilities with 3.6 mtpa production capacity based on the same technology as Shell’s Prelude FLNG, currently under construction in South Korea, Platts reports.
Coleman stressed the FEED for such projects is shorter than for onshore facilities. He added that the joint venture also has a better understanding of the cost structure and that the production could start around 2020.
