The Denbighshire County Council has begun an operation to dredge Rhyl Harbor as part of an annual maintenance program.

According to the local media, the dredging project started yesterday following the go-ahead by the Natural Resources Wales.

“ Maintenance dredging is essential to ensure Rhyl Harbor is fit for purpose and there are many long term benefits associated with maintaining navigable channels ,” said Councillor Huw Jones , Cabinet Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure and Youth.

“ The livelihoods of commercial boat owners rely heavily on the maintenance of the harbor. Since the completion of the regeneration of the harbor in 2014, the number of harbor users has increased considerably, therefore the pressure and demand to maintain the channels has also increased ,” added Councillor Jones.

During the works, approx 22,000 tonnes of material will be removed from the Harbor.

Three 25 tonne dump trucks will be used for transporting dredged material from the site, with contractors working for three hours either side of low tide each day.
