Tokyo Electric Power Company said it has concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand regarding LNG value chain business for electricity generation.

It represents the company’s first undertaking to develop such an LNG value chain business overseas, the company said in a statement.

Tepco decided to enhance its cooperation with Egat, which plans to build a new LNG thermal power station in Thailand and has been negotiating with Tepco towards cooperation in LNG value chain business. The two companies will implement activities in accordance with the MOU, such as information exchange and mutual training courses.

Tepco considers that its entity, Jera, that it has established with Chubu Electric with the aim to create the world’s largest value chain business from fuel procurement to electricity generation, could utilize its merits in this area. The company said that the business will be transferred to Jera once preparations are completed.
