The first foundation has recently been installed at the Gode Wind offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. The foundations have been fabricated across Denmark and Germany by Bladt Industries and EEW.

EEW are fabricating the monopiles, with Bladt Industries’ work focusing on the transition pieces. Coatings from AkzoNobel’s International protective coatings range were utilized by both companies to protect the assets from the extreme environment of the North Sea. The Gode Wind 1 and 2 projects will have a combined capacity of 584 MW upon completion. The 97 turbines on the project will be able to provide upwards of 600,000 German households with electricity.

“The ongoing relationship between Bladt Industries and AkzoNobel was key in helping us to secure the Gode Wind project. The strength of this relationship is demonstrated through a number of other recent offshore wind projects involving both companies, including Borkum Riffgrund and Westermost Rough” commented Steen Larsen, Sales manager for Protective Coatings.

International protective coatings used on the Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind project include the heavy duty Interzone 954 for the submerged areas. Some areas were also topcoated with Interthane 990 to deliver additional color durability.

Interzone 954 and Interthane 990 will also be utilized on the substation jacket for both Gode Wind projects, alongside a long lasting atmospheric protective coating system of Interzinc 52, Intergard 475HS and Interthane 990 for the substation topsides. The substation will be manufactured by Smulders Group, based out of Helmond, Netherlands.
