Sabella, a French tidal energy developer, is currently making preparations to install subsea power cable for its D10 tidal turbine off the Ushant island.
According to Sabella, Bourbon’s tugboat Argonaut is expected to arrive to the port of Brest on Saturday 9 am.
Following the charging of the cable that is expected to be completed on Saturday, the boat will depart to Fromveur Passage the day after.
The installation of the 2 km, 7.5 kVA subsea power cable is expected to last for two days, starting Monday.
The crew of 20 people will be present on the boat to make sure the installation goes smoothly.
FMGC , a cast iron component manufacturer, has provided 200 m of cast iron cable protection that will be installed close to the shore for cable stabilization.
Sabella plans to deploy its 1 MW D10 tidal turbine late in June, subject to suitable weather conditions, during the neap tide.
After the installation, D10 tidal turbine will be connected to Ushant island’s grid .
The company that will provide the cargo ship for the turbine installation is German-based Combi Lift.
