The deployment of the ISWEC wave energy converter will take place in June, off the island of Pantelleria, Sicily.
Wave for Energy’s ISWEC wave energy device is currently located at the shipyard in Mazara del Vallo, a coastal town in Sicily, Italy, where the company is conducting final preparations of the device ahead of its deployment.
The company originally planned to deploy ISWEC device in March, but the deployment was delayed due to unsuitable weather conditions.
Tidal Energy Today spoke to Paolo Gherra, Project Manager at Wave for Energy, who confirmed the company plans to resume the deployment process in June.
Gherra added that the laying of the subsea cable for ISWEC wave energy device will begin next week off the Pantelleria island.
Following the deployment, ISWEC wave energy device will be connected to Pantelleria island’s grid, and the energy produced by the prototype will be donated to the municipality of Pantelleria, Gherra said.
The company plans to keep the device deployed for 5 years, with the intention of adding another device next year in order to form an array.
Wave for Energy is currently looking for investors that would help accelerate the commercialization of ISWEC wave energy device.
Wave for Energy is a Turin-based wave energy developer that has designed and built ISWEC wave energy converter that uses a gyroscopic system to exploit wave’s slopes to produce energy.
