Energy-hungry Pakistan, which recently became an LNG importing nation, is about to receive a cargo of the chilled gas from Qatar, shipping data reveals.

The 150,900 cbm FSRU Exquisite is currently on its way to Pakistan, carrying a cargo from Ras Laffan, where the world’s largest LNG complex is located.

Excelerate Energy’s Exquisite, being used as Pakistan’s first import terminal in Port Qasim, received its first cargo in March this year.

Three cargoes have been delivered from Qatar to Pakistan since the start-up of the Port Qasim LNG terminal in March, Sheikh Imran-ul-Haque, Chief Executive Officer of Engro Elengy , told LNG World News.

Engro Elengy is operating the country’s first import terminal with a capacity for regasification of up to 4.5 million tons of LNG per year.

Pakistan is using LNG for power generation to reduce its reliance on importing furnace oil and diesel.

Earlier this month the country launched its first tender for the supply of the chilled gas from July to October, 2015.

According to the tender, Pakistan State Oil Company is looking for four 143,000 cbm LNG cargoes during the period of four months.

Supply bids are to be submitted by June 13 and stay valid until June 26.
