FM Glenn Constructions have been awarded a contract to manufacture 1200 concrete blocks that will be a part of the future upgrade to the Coffs Harbor northern breakwater.

“ The new wall will increase the level of protection to people, property and boats at the Coffs Harbor marina by preventing from waves overtopping the breakwater ,” Mr Niall Blair, Minister for Lands and Water , said. “ FM Glenn will manufacture the concrete blocks, known as hanbars, each weigh 12 tonnes and will eventually be placed along the northern breakwater as part of the proposed upgrade to the wall.

The manufacture of the hanbars will take up to six months and cost $2.5 million.

Member for Coffs Harbor Andrew Fraser said that the design was being finalized with works on the breakwater scheduled to commence in early 2016.

“ More than 100,000 people use the northern breakwater to access Muttonbird Island every year and the works are part of the NSW Government’s significant investment in regional coastal infrastructure. ”

The NSW Government has engaged with the local community and harbor users to develop the most effective design for the breakwater.

Work is also getting underway soon on a $1 million replacement of the Coffs Harbor Low Level Wharf. A contract has been awarded to Smithbridge Australia to carry out the work. The existing wharf is over 30 years old and has reached the end of its serviceable life.

Both these projects are part of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s coastal infrastructure program, that supports local economies through improving maritime facilities.
