Last Saturday saw the last monopile foundation installed at the Dutch nearshore wind farm Westermeerwind.

Working six days a week, ‘De Schelde’ pontoon, fitted with the 11350 Liebherr crane, completed the transport and installation of monopiles on schedule.

Project director Peter de Weijs : “We are very pleased with the installation of the foundation. Despite that we were depending on the weather, the installation was finished on time”.

Currently, the installation of the export and array cables is taking place, and it is expected to be completed next month. Also, the construction of the substation is in its final phase, scheduled to be finished this week.

From mid-July onward the installation of towers, nacelles and turbines is planned.

The installation commenced in March this year when Van Oord/Mammoet installed the first 35-meter long foundation pile, weighing around 250 tons.

Siemens will supply 3MW turbines for the 144MW project which is due to come online in early 2016.

The first energy is expected in August 2015 and project completion in February 2016.
