Marine Power Systems (MPS) has been invited to present at the annual conference of the Partnership for Research in Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE).

John Chapman, Chief Engineer at MPS, will update attendees on the development of its wave energy converter – the WaveSub.

The prototype was designed and developed in collaboration with Swansea University’s SEACAMs project and LCRI Marine, Marine Power Systems’ press release reads.

Gareth Stockman , Managing Director of MPS, said: “We are entering a critical point in the development of our technology with the launch of a quarter-scale prototype planned for later this year. We will look forward to updating delegates on how we solve some of the specific challenges faced when capturing wave energy. We look forward to feedback on our paper and meeting like-minded individuals in this sector.”

MPS plans to deploy a quarter-scale prototype of the device at FaBTest, a test site situated 2.8 km2 within Falmouth harbour, later this year.

Strainstall, part of the James Fisher and Sons group, has been selected to provide a monitoring package to support the prototype testing.

The PRIMaRE conference will take place at the University of Exeter on June 16 and 17, 2015.

It will include a special session dedicated to industry developments in this field and academic-industrial collaborations.

Marine Power Systems (MPS) is Swansea-based wave energy developer founded in 2009 with the purpose of developing and commercializing its WaveSub wave energy converter technology.
