A UN-chartered ship carrying humanitarian aid to Yemen was shelled by rebel forces thus preventing the ship from docking in the country’s port of Aden.
As informed, the ship loaded with 7,000 tons of food is believed to had been targeted by the Shiite Huthi rebels when it was within a nautical mile of the port of Aden, Agence France-Presse reported citing an official.
Faced with open fire the ship turned back and is situated some eight miles nautical miles off Aden.
There were no reports on potential damage to the ship or injuries on board.
The port of Aden is controlled by pro-government forces whereas the rebels hold several neighborhoods in the city.
The ship set off from Djibouti, which is used by the UN as a humanitarian hub.
