Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company’s dredge “Terrapin Island” is moored offshore, discharging a load of sand from her 6,400 cubic yard hopper through a submerged pipeline during one of her various dredging projects.

The dredge discharge from the pipeline is shown in the foreground and dozers are used to grade and shape the discharged sand along the restored beach area.

The “Terrapin Island” is ready for the next project, the maintenance dredging of the Galveston inner and outer bar, entrance channel and extended entrance channel as well as the Houston Ship Channel between Bolivar Road and Redfish Island.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded the $11.5 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company in late May. The project is expected to be completed by November 2015.
