Nitin Gadkari, Union Shipping Minister told Shipping Corporation of India to look for second-hand LNG ships in the international market.

Gadkari told that he ordered SCI to find used ships in order to transport LNG before India starts building liquefied natural gas carriers domestically, reports the Press Trust of India.

Even though Cochin Shipyard has signed a deal with Samsung Heavy Industries to cooperate on building LNG carriers in India, Gadkari expects this process to take five to six year, a period in which SCI could deploy used LNG carriers for transporting the chilled gas.

He added that he will take this suggestion to the Petroleum Ministry and hopes that the decision will be taken soon. He stressed that he still fully supports the “Make in India” programme.
