Three more tendons on the Chevron’s Big Foot tension-leg platform (TLP) have sunk, causing an indefinite delay to the start of the project.
As Reuters reports, nine of sixteen tendons have sunk to the seabed after failing to float.
Chevron previously reported that the Big Foot TLP was not connected to any subsea wells or tendons at the time of the incident and was not damaged.
The tendons are used to attach the TLP to the seafloor, and Chevron is reported to be assessing the damage.
The Big Foot field lies in the Walker Ridge Area and is estimated to contain total recoverable resources in excess of 200 million oil-equivalent barrels.
Chevron expects the site to produce 75,000 barrels of oil and 25 million cubic feet of natural gas per day once it opens.
