Towage company Svitzer said it has established a joint venture with SVR Marine Services in an effort to secure a footprint in Malaysia.

Operating in Malaysia requires a local structure, and with the new joint venture, Svitzer is able to approach customers and participate in tenders, the company said in a statement.

SVR Marine Services includes agency services for harbor and terminal towage.

“Malaysian market boasts an advanced LNG industry and expanding port operations. Our objective is to supply the Malaysian market with a new standard of towage under the Malaysian flag,” said Lise Demant, Managing Director for Svitzer Asia .
