The Hydrographic Society UK (THS UK) has elected Ian Holden, currently Project Surveyor with DOF Subsea in Aberdeen, as its new Chairman.

Holden will succeed David Parker, the UKHO’s Hydrography Manager with particular responsibility for its Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP).

A former Liverpool Port Hydrographer, with responsibility for dredging and survey operations for its Conservancy Agency, as well as those within the Manchester Ship Canal, Ian Holden has widespread experience covering not only port and coastal zone activities, but also those elsewhere involving extensive inland water, offshore construction and airborne undertakings.

Holden holds a BSc in Hydrography with Ocean Science from Plymouth University and started a professional career with Racal Survey in the mid-1990s. He was Chairman of THS UK’s North West Region from 2005-2011.

With administrative headquarters in Plymouth, The Hydrography Society UK represents all sectors of the hydrographic industry and associated disciplines at both home and abroad with an active corporate, individual and student membership drawn from nearly 40 countries. It is also a founding member of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS) comprising similar organisations in Australasia, Benelux, Denmark, Germany, Italy, South Africa and South Korea.
