The 150,900 cbm FSRU Exquisite, which is being used as Pakistan’s first LNG import terminal, is currently sailing to Qatar to load another cargo of the chilled gas.
Excelerate Energy’s Exquisite departed from Port Qasim, where Pakistan’s first and only LNG import facility is located, on Tuesday, June 8.
Once it loads a cargo at the port of Ras Laffan, home of the world’s largest LNG complex, the FSRU will head back to Port Qasim to discharge the chilled gas being used for power generation in Pakistan.
Pakistan started using LNG to fire up its power plants in March of 2015 to reduce its reliance on importing furnace oil and diesel.
“ This will be the fifth shipment of LNG for Pakistan since the start up of Port Qasim facilities in March, including the commissioning cargo ,” Sheikh Imran-ul-Haque, Chief Executive Officer of Engro Elengy , told LNG World News on Wednesday.
Engro Elengy is operating the country’s first import terminal with a capacity for regasification of up to 4.5 million tons of LNG per year.
Pakistan also recently launched its first tender for the supply of the liquefied natural gas. According to the tender, Pakistan State Oil Company is looking for four 143,000 cbm LNG cargoes for the period from July to October, 2015.
Supply bids are to be submitted by June 13 and stay valid until June 26.
