Atmocean has delayed the deployment of its wave energy system off Peru due to unsuitable weather conditions.
The US wave energy developer made a deployment attempt on June 10, 2015.
According to Atmocean’s social media, the deployment attempt failed, and the company will wait for more suitable weather conditions to retry the wave energy system installation.
“Made a deployment attempt yesterday but afternoon winds and higher wave activity forced a retrieval of gear. Will wait for the next deployment window,” Atmocean stated on Thursday, June 11.
Atmocean plans to deploy a 1:3 scaled wave energy system off Ilo, Peru. The system consists of 5 buoys and 5 pressurized pumps, and aside from producing electricity, it is capable of producing fresh water from sea water through the desalination process.
The demonstration system will act as a proof of concept, leading to a full scale system deployment consisting of 15 units by the end of 2015.
Atmocean is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. The company has set up a Peruvian subsidiary to seize the opportunities available in Latin America and Peru.
