HR Wallingford has been appointed by China Harbour Engineering Company to support the development of Swansea Bay tidal lagoon.

China Harbour Engineering Company, the company that was recently selected by Tidal Lagoon Power, the developer behind Swansea tidal lagoon, as a preferred bidder for £300 mln contract to provide marine works for the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon, has appointed HR Wallingford to support CHEC as the project moves ahead.

Under the terms of the contract, CHEC will be responsible for the construction of the 9.6 km long lagoon wall – including bund wall and coffer dam.

HR Wallingford will provide hydraulic physical models of the lagoon in an effort to optimize its design.

Bruce Tomlinson , HR Wallingford’s Chief Executive, said: “We will use 2D and 3D hydraulic physical models of the proposed six mile u-shaped breakwater and seawall around Swansea Bay to investigate and further optimise their design. We look forward to working with CHEC and we are proud to be a part of the UK supply chain for this innovative project.”

HR Wallingford is a UK-based independent engineering and environmental hydraulics organization.
