Norwegian oil and gas giant Statoil will reportedly reduce its workforce by 2000 positions.

According to Offshore.no , about 1500 permanent employees and 500 contractors will be notified of this decision.

The news website further reports that the final decision is yet to be made, however there is no indication that the result will be anything else than what was presented yesterday at a meeting of union representatives and Statoil’s management. The cuts will be implemented next year and will be done through early retirement and severance packages.

This round of redundancies is an addition to reports that emerged in Norwegian media in April 2015 when it was said that Statoil would cut up to 20 percent within its technical sector that employs around 12,000 engineers.

Offshore Energy Today contacted Statoil for confirmation of Norwegian media news reports; however, we are yet to receive the company’s response.
