Woodfibre LNG said it has been granted an associate membership in the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO).
Woodfibre LNG is proposing to build a modestly sized liquefied natural gas processing and export facility at the site of a former pulp and paper mill, about seven kilometres from downtown Squamish, B.C.
“ We have heard from the community that membership in SIGTTO is an important priority, a view that we have shared from day one ,” said Byng Giraud, Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Woodfibre LNG . “ Being invited and accepted as an associate member of SIGTTO means Woodfibre LNG can take full advantage of the expertise of the organization, while awaiting full membership once our facility is in full operation .”
SIGTTO is an international non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the safe and reliable operation of gas tankers and terminals within a sound environment. The Society has consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and represents more than 200 companies that operate more than 95% of the world’s LNG tankers and terminals, and more than 50% of the world’s LPG tankers and terminals.
In Canada, SIGTTO best practices are included in Transport Canada’s Technical Review Process of Marine Terminal Systems and Transshipment Sites (TERMPOL), a voluntary review process that Woodfibre LNG is currently undergoing.
Associate Members of SIGTTO have all the benefits of full members with the exception of voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. To become a full member of SIGTTO, a company must have equity interest in, or operate, an LNG carrier or terminal.
