Eco Wave Power, an Israeli wave energy company, has developed wave energy technology that harnesses the energy of the waves at onshore and near shore site locations.

Eco Wave Power has developed its proprietary wave energy converters which use Wave Clapper and Power Wing buoys that rise and fall with the up and down motion, lifting force, change of water level, hydraulic air lock, and incident flux of waves.

The buoys are attached by robust arms to any type of structure, such as breakwaters, piers, jetties, floating barriers, poles, and fixed platforms.

The energy is produced when the waves cause the buoys to move up and down. The pressure created by the moving buoys is converted into the compressed fluid by the hydro-pneumatic system located onshore.

The compressed fluid is stored in the accumulator. When the compressed fluid is released, it turns the hydraulic motor, which in turn spins the generator to produce electricity.

The Wave Clapper and the Power Wing are fully equipped with sensors which continuously monitor the performance of the various subsystems and surrounding ocean environment.

According to Eco Wave Power, in the event of upcoming storms, the system will automatically recognize the type of waves, and decide whether to raise the buoys over the water level, or submerge them under water, to protect the buoys from damage.

Late in March, 2015, Eco Wave Power received a consent approval from the Chinese government to construct a wave power plant in Zoushan island, China.

The plant will have the capacity of 100 kW, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Take a look at the video showcasing Eco Wave Power’s wave energy technology in action.
