Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) has received final permit approval for the deployment of its PB40 PowerBuoy off New York City.
The permit has been issued by the New York City District Army Corps of Engineers, and the device will be deployed approximately 55 km southeast of the New York City Harbour.
After deployment, the buoy will remain on site for up to one year.
During that period OPT plans to gather operating performance and wave data, in accordance with the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management requirements, OPT’s press release reads.
George Kirby , President and Chief Executive Officer of OPT, said: “We have begun the process of deploying mooring lines for the buoy and are monitoring for a suitable weather window for buoy deployment.”
Kirby added the company appreciates the assistance provided by US Department of Energy, the European Union and consortium partners for the development of the PB40 PowerBuoy.
Ocean Power Technologies is a New Jersey-based wave energy developer that has designed their proprietary PowerBuoy technology based on a modular design.
